History

It's hard to describe Adru the Misphit's music in a few words, but three good ones would be intense, emotional and raw. Born in Houston, TX, and raised in Manhattan, KS, after being adopted as a young child, he is an emcee/producer that was brought up on the Hip-Hop of the "golden age." His lyrical style and beats are a reflection of that timeless music. He began writing and spitting rhymes in the early nineties, honing his skills in ciphers and on homemade tapes. Adru's first time in a studio came when DJ Trixster (now J.T. Quick of KPRS 103 jamz in KC) started giving the young emcee spots on his show at the K-State station d.b. 92. When Trixster moved on to greener pastures, Adru's DJ at the time, Soul Mutt (now of KC's Streetmonstaz/Beatmonstaz collective), started the weekly underground/indie hip-hop show "Open Eye Wreck." Adru played the co-host, spitting writtens and freestyles a couple times every week.

Soon, Dru was gaining a reputation as one of the top lyricists in the state. He cut his first demo with KC's DJ Just and shortly after that recorded his first studio EP with the production of Rob Wonder. While Adru was making a name for himself, his personal life took some turns that for left him unable to continue his musical pursuits (he talks a lot about these times in his songs). After years of struggle he was finally able to get back to music seriously around 2005, relocating to Lawrence after about eight years in Kansas City. He quickly started making a name for himself again in the tight-knit KC/Lawrence scene, being featured on Tommy Lift's compilation "Stacked Deck," Nezbeat's "From the Huge Silence" and Archetype's latest album "Bleed for Them." He also has upcoming spots on a production album/compilation from Johnny Quest and an iD solo album.

His own album will be coming out in 2007, with beats from a lot of the region's most accomplished producers, as well as a handful of self-produced tracks. This album will represent the essence of Hip-Hop music itself -- dusty, boom-bap beats with poetic lyrics and complex rhyme structure, scathing social commentary, vivid introspection & auto-biographical stories and a dash of that braggadocious/battle steez Dru was well-known for years ago. Production by: Nezbeat, Johnny Quest, Miles Bonny, Detail, Vertigone, Beat Broker, Adru.
