History

Blackout Gorgeous, an up and coming band from the Kansas City/Lawrence, area is currently finishing up their first album, Tragic Logic. Blackout Gorgeous has played at venues such as The Bottleneck, Paradise Cafe, The Pool Room, Jackpot Saloon, Stu's Midtown, The Gaslight Tavern, The Granada, The Brick and Davey's Uptown. They have made a name for themselves among fans who have been growing in number every time they play a show. Their sound explores many textures between the members' many influences and backgrounds. Jeremy Nesbitt, a well-known Lawrence hip-hop producer (has done production for Approach, Murs Archetype, Mac Lethal, Hieroglyphics, Rhymesayers, Murs, among many others), constructs the electronic based beats and sounds and also plays keyboards. Sometimes basic 808 breakdowns and sometimes sweeping symphonic waves, Jeremys contribution as one of the founding members of Invisible Sea is key to bringing the listener into the here and now. Both long-time rock and jazz performers and composers in the Kansas City area, Ryan Wurtz (also a founding member) and Nick Urbom add their own depth and energy to the sound. Ryan works with electric and accoustic guitar, using effects to enhance his many styles and moods ranging from amorphous ambience to jazz to straight up rock. Recently, Ryan invited in his long time collaborator on acoustic drums to add to the electronic-based sound . Also, Nick is not limited to just drum set as he offers his skills on vibes and other percussion instruments as well. Chris Handley, also a seasoned rock and jazz performer in the Lawrence area, plays electric bass. He also uses effects and plays a key role in interacting with Nick and Ryan on the live stage. Erin Keller, an experienced classical and jazz singer and pianist brings life to the evocative lyrics of Tim Wurtz, through soaring melodies and syncopated speeches. This is where Blackout Gorgeous' uniqueness truly unfolds as the female and male perspectives juxtapose and intertwine through the interaction of Erin and Tim, the two final founding members of the band. Tim, a long time writer, brings an abundance of talent and a solid image and message to the soundscape that is Blackout Gorgeous. His anthemic chanting is given a powerful meaning of revolution and change in the musical context of the rest of the band. Blackout Gorgeous is a combination of styles and interests with the capacity to wow most listeners while at the same time creating a dance-filled energetic atmosphere at live shows.
