History

Ras Neville and the Kingstonians first captivated local audiences in 1983 (as Common Ground) with a soulful mix of original reggae grooves and conscious lyrics. Their ever-evolving style blended reggae and R&B with soft vocal harmonies and a powerful horn section. Common Ground won the 1997, 1998 and 2000 Klammie awards for Best World-Beat Band as well as the winner of the Midwest Reggae Awards from 1991 through 1996. The band is honored to have shared the stage with such reggae legends as the Wailers, Burning Spear, Itals, Lucky Dube, Culture, and Mutabaruka.
