History
On a second story backyard deck overlooking the splendid greenery of neighborly suburban vistas, Lindsey Hogan and Matt Gertken first began swapping the most rousing rigadig fiddle tunes of old America they knew. Reacting both with and against the renewed fame of mainstream bluegrass, the two decided to bring "true" old-time music to a town rich in American history. Devil Eat the Groundhog was born. After enjoying a lengthy collaboration with the now-disbanded but legendary Two Dollar Shoe Revival Story, and recruiting fellow folkies Nick Gardner on clawhammer banjo and Sean McCue on bass-fiddle, the band established themselves as house-stringband at the budding Gaslight Tavern. The band's repertoire has since expanded to include a great deal of bluegrass and country music. Most recently, with the addition of vocalist and guitarist Josh Basnett, and mandolinist Jesse Carr, the band hopes to usher in another Spring season of hollering (and sometimes haunting) reels and drinking songs.
