History

I've been playing in bands and in Lawrence since 2001. I started out in the band Firebush! but it kind of disintegrated all around me, and I was more interested in kind of an alt-country/singer-songwriter type of thing. I'd been using the name The Altamonts for recordings and one-off shows, but started using it full time in 2003. I started performing under my own name late last year though due to the fact that people thought they were getting an act instead of a solo performer. I've been really influenced by the 60's folk movement, as well as the 12-string jangle of The Byrds and Tom Petty. I'm also heavily influenced by Neil Young's solo acoustic work like "Campaigner" and "Ambulance Blues." I've done shows all over the place as The Altamonts, I've played in several states, as well as lots of places around Kansas. I play acoustic 6 & 12-string guitar as well as electric guitar, depending on the song and/or show, but I usually just perform acoustically.
