Pleasuremaker is the conception of Joe McGuire, formerly of Jose PH, a.k.a 'shirtless Joe' a.k.a. 'Cheo' from the Latin Lab on KJHK. McGuire began experimenting with drum machines and 4 tracks towards the end of Jose PH. Since the band split a few years ago he has mostly spent time writing new music, teaching himself how to produce, putting in three successful years doing the Latin Lab on KJHK and throwing parties around the scene i.e. Shake Your Culo at Eight One Five and Afro-Shingaling at The 8th Street Tap Room. For those who have enjoyed the radio show or these parties they can look forward to a live installation edition to this already thriving scene. Featuring a lineup of all-star musicians including percussionists of the west African percussion ensemble Djembe Khaan, outstanding former Jose PH bass player Paul Winn, excellent jazz voicings from featured Rhodes and keys man Mike Blobaum, soulful female chorus singers from area local bands, and a combination of deep afro laden disco-funk organic grooves layin' over sampled beats coming together around afro-beat guitar and driving vocals from the Plasuremaker. Look for some live parties to began springin up on the scene in March.
