History
Formed and fronted by Shallow mainstays Jason and Julie Shields, The Capsules are an inspired, hooky and simply beautiful band who have recently made their home in the college town of Lawrence, Kansas.
The list of Shallow's accomplishments is quite a long and impressive one. Including multiple national tours and shows with (to name a few) the Creatures, the Flaming Lips, Garbage, Low, Lotus Crown, Luna, Mercury Rev, and Spectrum. Add to that statistics like #1 most added at CMJ and Gavin; working with producers like Keith Cleversley, David Baker, and Sonic Boom; a 14 show trek through Europe; playing the entire 1996 Lollapollooza tour; and a string of influential releases and you've got something, especially for an Independent band, that's quite special.
All of this sets the stage for the Shields' new endeavor, The Capsules. With a more focused sound and a refined live show (not to mention quite a few new electronic gadgets) the Shields' definitely continue their musical growth, taking their unique and trademark sounds to new levels of experimentation, purity, and sweetness. The Capsules were even asked to record a song for the Nickelodeon NickToon SpongeBob SquarePants.
Joining The Capsules on drums is Texas native Kevin Trevino. Former member of Dallas band Kickstand, he is also now a percussionist for the Kansas City Symphony.
When asked what's next for The Capsules, Jason and Julie explain how they're excited about taking what they've worked so hard to build up in the past and expanding upon it. But also about the refreshing feeling of starting over. 'It's time to do it all again and we simply can't wait.'
