Radio station: Listen to music by Hardaways
Description
Current Status: Regrettably, The Hardaways hung it up (temporarily?) in the Fall of 2003.
Sound description: A three-piece that manages to sound bigger than the sum of their parts, lead singer and songwriter Jeff alternates between guitar and a baby grand piano live. The result is a mix of Squeeze-inspired piano pop and Elvis Costello-esque guitar rock. And then there's Jeff's voice, which has the effect of an elephant yelling at the moon.
Influences: Beatles, Pixies, Liz Phair
Similar to: Ben Folds, Elvis Costello, Cake

History
The Hardaways began as a two piece with Andy and Jeff. The band completed two self-released albums before bringing Ron aboard on bass. With a fully functioning rhythm section, the Hardaways began drawing a reputation for their live shows, peaking in 2002 when the won KJHKs Farmer's Ball and a spot on Day on the Hill alongside the Anniversary. Today they share the distinction of being the only known band to haul a baby grand piano into the Replay Lounge and the Tap Room.
