Description

Current Status: Recording and playing a few shows.

Sound description: Local musician Craig Comstock set out on his own when he became frustrated trying to find a drummer willing to play improvised hardcore. Now he does exactly that, performing solo with a hefty array of pedals and a pair of sticks to beat simultaneously on drums and guitar. Comstock recently teamed up with freeform saxophonist Dan Kozak to create awesomely manic improv jams.

Influences: Dismemberment Plan, Guided By Voices, Smog, Prokofiev's Sonata No. 7 for Piano, Morton Feldman's Piano and String Quartet, Olivier Messian's Quartet for the End of Time, Francis Poulenc's Gloria, Igor Stravinsky, George Crumb, John Cage's Sonatas & Interludes for prepared piano. Gyorgy Ligeti, Krysztof Penderecki, LaMonte Young, J.S. Bach, Maurice Ravel, Christopher Rouse, Bela Bartok, Bernard Hermann, Sonic Youth, Sun Ra, Melvins, Polvo.

History

This Is My Condition is a one man band in which Craig Comstock plays guitar, drums and sings all at the same time. In the tradition of noise rock this music is heavy, tough and intense, while at other times very free and unstructured. This Is My Condition deals in power, spontaneity and passionate lyrics. Coming from a background of experimentation, repetition and angst in Many Series and Black Calvin, Craig takes things in a new direction by going solo and performing on-the-spot improvisations of the same ilk.
