Best of Lawrence 2017: Frequently Asked Questions
When can I vote?
Best of Lawrence 2017 voting runs from 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1 to 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28. You can vote in every category, every day. So come back often!
How do I submit my votes?
Make your choice (existing or write-in) and click "Save and continue to next category." Vote in as many or as few categories as you'd like. Each day you can make new selections.
How did you create the ballot?
To get the 2017 ballot, we took the top 10 vote-getters in each category from the 2016 Best of Lawrence ballot. Nearly 12,000 of you voted last year, so we're adjusting the ballot based on your feedback. Write-ins are strongly encouraged! If your favorite person or place gets enough, they'll start out on our ballot next year.
What happened to the _____ category from last year?
Some categories didn't have enough potential nominees. Others have been renamed or replaced with newer, more specific categories. Disagree? Let us know so we can reconsider in 2018: firstname.lastname@example.org
Why wasn't a particular nominee carried over from last year's ballot?
The Best of Lawrence team pored over the list of top finishers from last year and removed businesses that closed, people who left town and other outdated information. Some businesses that significantly rebranded were not carried over. If services are still being offered under a different name or as part of a larger company, we highly encourage write-ins! Did we miss something or do you feel we removed something in error? Please email us at email@example.com. Our team will consider requests on a case-by-case basis.
Can I add a business to the ballot for 2018?
Write in, write in, write in! (see ballot questions above)
Can I add a category for 2018?
Maybe! Get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We'll review suggestions and consider how many potential nominees exist in the category.
When and how will votes be counted?
Votes will be tallied beginning March 1, and we'll release more information on the counting process around that time. Any discrepancies within the results or suspected rules violations will be noted and potential corrective actions will be announced.
When will winners be announced?
Thursday, June 15, 2017. Save the date! We'll throw a Winner's Bash at Abe & Jake's Landing, where we'll reveal your choices for the Best of Lawrence.
When will the Best of Lawrence magazine be available?
The magazine will be distributed at the Winner's Bash event. And on Sunday, June 18, it will be included in subscriber copies of the Lawrence Journal-World. After that, we'll have copies at our offices at 645 New Hampshire.
Can I advertise in the Best of Lawrence magazine?
Yes! Please contact our sales team at email@example.com. Placing an ad will not influence the results of the contest. The sales team will have no prior knowledge of results until they are announced at the June 15 event.
Do you have any materials to help nominees promote themselves?
We sure do. Free marketing materials, including posters, are available for pick up at the Lawrence Journal-World offices at 645 New Hampshire St., during business hours Monday through Friday. Looking for logos to use in your own promotions? We have those too! T-Shirts and buttons are also available for sale at our online store.
