Happy 4th of July, America!
Thursday, July 3, 2008
OK, so this isn't movie news this week. But it is Independence Day weekend, and to help celebrate the 4th of July, that most patriotic of all days, here's a some great links to some rah-rah, sis-boom-bang "Go America!" fun. Sometimes I wonder: If aliens picked up only certain Earth transmissions (namely these!), what they would think of our great country? Enjoy!

You "Wanted" a trashy, violent revenge flick...you got it!
Friday, June 27, 2008
Well, it’s official. The times have changed drastically since the days of pumped-up muscleheads like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Vin Diesel—anybody can be an action hero.
Hollywood Clip Joint for Thursday, June 26
Thursday, June 26, 2008
Every Thursday, I shuffle through the week's movie news to find the most intruiging stories (no, nothing about Anne Hathaway's ex or Jessica and Tony Romo-- this is movie news for fans of movies, not Gossip Central). If you've been waiting for Quentin Tarantino to stop talking about it and finally finish writing his long-awaited WWII epic, it's your lucky day. Find out about this and the latest from Roman Polanski, Ricky Gervais, and the "Watchmen" camp in today's Hollywood Clip Joint.

Wednesday, June 25, 2008
Part 2 of 3: I have the first full-length interview with Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne following the exclusive, festival-only screenings of the new Flaming Lips movie, “Christmas on Mars.” I caught up with Wayne before The Lips took the stage Friday June 6, 2008 at the Wakarusa Music Festival, where he talks about what inspired him to make the movie - seven years in the making - and his drive to finish a movie his mother might have dreamt up while dozing on the couch one night. View Part 1 here.
Top 10 Movie Soundtracks
Tuesday, June 24, 2008
These days, movie soundtracks can go many different ways. There's the compilation of pop songs, songs scored specifically for the movie, and the original scores. Whether the movie or the music came first, a good soundtrack makes you feel like you're watching the movie again when you're listening to it. Following up J.D.'s Top 10 Soundtracks list from last week, here is an updated version of my favorite soundtracks, featuring me taking every possible chance I can get to cram more than one soundtracks under each number. I simply have too many to fit in one ordinary Top 10. Enjoy!

Young actress, unlikely images propel remarkable 'The Fall'
Thursday, June 19, 2008
If you have read anything about this movie, you are already aware that its exotic locations, artfully designed camera angles, and colorful art direction make it a unique experience. What I’d like to mention, then, is something equally, if not more, remarkable: the performance of its lead actress, the young Romanian actress Catinca Untaru.
Hollywood Clip Joint, 6/18: Wanna argue?
Wednesday, June 18, 2008
It's nice not to be alone, and I state this with pride: "Speed Racer" was unjustly villified by misdirected fanboys and dim-witted parents. This week's Clip Joint has an in-depth look at its failure (maybe they should have marketed it as an arthouse flick), M. Night Shyamalan's spectacular nosedive, Ed Norton's contribution to the "Hulk" screenplay, new AFI lists to argue about, a gay marriage in space, and a bold release date for Sacha Baron Cohen's "Bruno."
