The Great Wilco Riots of '08
Friday, March 21, 2008
I'm into this warm weather. I even cleaned up our yard yesterday, and I'm thinking it might just be time to go sit out at the Replay's beer garden. Mmm... beer.
Also excited to hear about the year's first outdoor show (that I'm aware of anyway), which if the city permits it, will also be in a great location. A promoter has asked the city for a permit for Wilco to play an outdoor show in the vacant lot behind US Bank on 9th & New Hampshire. I don't know why Chad Lawhorn is CAPS'n out WILCO, but sure. I'd go. The show behind Grinder's in KC went over extremely well. And if KC can do it, surely Lawrence can do it better (I'm still bitter about having to pay Missouri taxes too, damnit).
To respond to a couple of the comments on the story:
-rammy: Hipsters aren't really into Wilco. Hippies are a better case. And I don't care what you say, Lawrence doesn't have that many hippies anyway. Go check out Boulder. They all went there. There's better weed.
-OldEnuf2BeUrDad: Wilco fans causing a downtown riot is about as likely as you burning down the Phoggy Dog, or wherever it is you hang out. I mean, just look at these guys - Jeff Tweedy would rather be growing a beard:

Old photo or is Nels gone? That would be a shame -- unless he and Carla Bozulich are setting up a Fibbers reunion. Dare to dream...
I have to say, Tweedy's post-rehab recordings put me to sleep. I completely respect their talent and they are incredibly tight live, though. One of the best shows I've seen were them with Sonic Youth in 2002.

those were the good ol days for sure. i sure hate to admit it, but agree the last few releases illustrate a band past their prime.
[Ah! i feel like i'm cheating on my best friend when i say that]
nvrtheless, i will always love these guys more than anything.
and i'd never miss them live.
hmm..yea yr right. Must be a bit older pic. Pat's not there either...
