The star power of chisel-chested R&B singer Pharrell Williams (who does guest spots for Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, and seemingly everyone else) is N.E.R.D's most marketable asset. That's not to say the Virginia Beach, Va., outfit needs any help reaching the masses. As the production duo The Neptunes, Williams, and Chad Hugo churn out hits like a modern-day Motown or Quincy Jones factory. But whereas those projects keep the duo out of the spotlight, N.E.R.D. puts them front and center alongside collaborator Shay Haley. N.E.R.D. typically tours as a live band and incorporates funk, rock, and soul sounds alongside lady-killing hip-hop beats. more show info
