Multi-instrumentalist David Rawlings is best-known as a producer and the longtime musical partner of Gillian Welch (who's in the 'Machine'), but he's seeking to establish his own identity with the release of a new solo album called "A Friend of A Friend." The Americana-tinged numbers sport arrangements that are quite a bit more lavish than songs from the Welch catalog, with accompaniment from members of Old Crow Medicine Show and Bright Eyes. One highlight is a new take on "To Be Young (Is to Be Sad, Is to Be High)" — a song that Rawlings co-wrote with Ryan Adams' for his "Heartbreaker" album. More info on this show
