Paths to glory...

Finals, May 6 @ The Bottleneck ($5, all ages)
The winners of each round plus one wild card band:
Brett Armstrong
Apollo 13
Trucker
Lethe
Marry Me Moses (wild card**)

** About the wildcard selection: All judges agreed that Marry Me Moses was the strongest 2nd place winner overall, as well as having lost to one of the strongest 1st place winners. The specific scores were ignored when picking the wildcard because the judges varied from round to round - for example, note that the first place winner from Round 1 scored lower than nearly all bands in the other rounds.

Preliminary round, online voting: View results

Judging criteria
Three judges selected by the three main sponsors (lawrence.com, A&E Legal Services, and Hunt Industries) will judge each night's performances. One band with the most votes will be selected at the end of each night based on the following criteria. Another wild card band will be selected after all four preliminary rounds by a consensus of the judges' opinions (not necessarily based on the following point system). The five final bands will compete at the finals for the grand prize.

¢ Crowd response: judges will assess crowd respsonse BOTH during your set AND during an applause vote after the show (possible 50 points total)

¢ Performance: judges will assess specific aspects on your set (possible 50 points total) based on the following criteria:
- Musicality, that is tastefulness and accomplishment in music, awareness of music and rhythm (10 points)
- Song selection, that is choice of music presented given the environment and event vibe (10 points)
- Appearance/presentation, that is thoughtfulness put into show and band appearance as a group of entertainers/musicians (10 points)
- Stage presence, that is interaction with audience (10 points)
- Overall, or a category that additional points may be awarded at the judges' discretion for aspects of the performance not otherwise itemized above (10 points)

(100 possible total points)

¢ Penalties
- Each band is allotted 65 minutes total time beginning at your scheduled start time (or at the end of the preceeding band's set, whichever comes last). Start times are posted on the lawrence.com event listing for each band's preliminary round. Start time is either the time there posted or when the preceeding band is completely off the stage (whichever is later).

We suppose each band will need 10 minutes set-up time, up to 45 minutes performance time and 10 minutes tear down time. Each band is responsible for adjusting these estimates according to their own time needs (i.e. if it takes you 15 minutes to set up and 15 minutes tear down, you'll have just 35 minutes performance time). For each minute you exceed your 65-minute slot, your band will be penalized 10 points from your total score. At 10 minutes overtime, (if necessary) the power will be pulled from your performance and your band will be disqualified. Bands need not use all their allotted time to be judged equally with other bands.

- Each band is expected to behave in a manner fit for civilized human beings. If the three judges agreee that some aspect of your behavior (i.e. endanging members of the audience - by throwing instruments into the crowd, etc. - or other bands - by fighting, verbally or otherwise - etc.) your band will be disqualified.
