The salad dressings are amazing.

Employees are a little pushy, meeting at the door and always checking up on you. It's nice to be helped, but let me eat in peace. Pizzas and salads are wonderful! Price is a bit much if you create your own and go over their preset limit of 3 toppings.

Having been there and discussed the vegan options of the menu at length, I think 12 vegan dishes is an error (unless it counts every make-your-own salad option), but they did assure me that they were developing a vegan pizza crust and perhaps a couple of other new items that were more vegan-friendly than the current menu.

Their dishes are designed to have a perfect melding of intense, simple flavors, so removing part of a menu item to make it animal-free takes too much from the overall character of the dish.

Definitely worth trying, whether you go now or wait for any menu tweaking. They are obsessed with quality, and the ingredients are in fact superb.

(Oh, and they recycle -- always a plus in my book!)

Oh yeah, and their unfortunately named "warm indian brick bread", which is served with almost everything by default, seems to be somewhere between naan and poori. I have heard that it is good.

They offered ciabatta as a vegan/kosher substitute for it, as it is made with milk.

Love it! I love Hubbard and his skills...... A bit hard to have a conversation with family and friends in this place and it would be nice for the lights to be lowered. I would say that for such great ingredients that a good wine or import would be lovely. Very clean and no matter when you walk in, they always want to serve. They love the buisness, which unfortunatly is not the case for most places..(staff) in Larryville. We went out and 2 places turned us down, because they were open till 10, but did not want to serve someone at 9:30. not Ingredient. Even though they were closed, they appreciated our coming in and supplied us with a menu and hours for the next day.
I suggest you try this place and taste the good and the fresh.

Respect for you,
Callie Tackett

The food is great here, but the employees can be slow to get your order right. I have been there four times now and something is always missing or wrong (wrong salad dressing, no cheese, no bread...). I will forgive them since they are still a new restaurant. My other beef with the place is that the owner has no real people skills. I let him know that the I had frequented the restaurant twice in three days because the food was great and he had a confused look on his face and just kind of mumbled an "ok". Maybe he needs to stay back in the kitchen if he can't respond with a "thank you for your business" next time!

I am very impressed overall. We had lunch there today and everyone was impressed. Someone said "$8.50 for lunch!" at the register... but when they got their food (and drink) they said "ok it's TOTALLY worth 8 bucks". I would have to agree my sandwich rocked... everything they served (i mean ALL of it) was fresh and gorgeous.

Steve (the owner) took the time to answer questions and chat with lots of people even though he was obviously busy... Their cashiers and buss-folk where equally quick and nice.

Advice: get there around 11:30 as it is PACKED around noon.

We have been to Ingredient several times and we have loved it every single time. The service is great and the staff is incredibly accommodating. The food is great and I think the prices are very reasonable. I have heard many people complain about the prices but honestly, they are really reasonable for what you get. You can get a smaller salad for instance at Aladdin cafe for the same amount of money, at Ingredient you get over 50% more food. I think people have an issue with the price of food because it is a nice place and I think some people may get intimidated by that. Anyway, I think Ingredient will do very well because of the quality of food and service is incredible.

Ingredient is fabulous! The build your own salad concept is a great one, and they really pull it off well. What a great idea.
The ambiance is nice and they have some good wines to choose from, too.
Definitely worth checking out!

First off, let me say that my salad was wonderful. Fresh ingredients with a great dressing. Very tasty stuff.

HOWEVER- I'm guessing it would have tasted better with ALL the ingredients I ordered, as would my friend's salad have tasted better with all the ingredients she'd ordered.

Plus, it took forever to get our food, the restaurant was loud and I'm not sure the very nice young lady at the register was quite ready to handle a lunch rush.

When a salad and a soda cost over $10, I expect a little more.

Sure, it is a little expensive and the place can be loud--but the food is wonderful. I love the Cesar salad (although I do wish it came with anchovies) and the pizza is good too. The salads taste fresh and delicious.

rcornish (Richard Cornish) says...

Some of the better food in Lawrence -- if you can stand their poor service and expensive price.

It's not uncommon to stand at the cash register while the all-female cashier staff either ignore you completely (no greeting, no "can I take your order," nothing) and simply walk away from you. I stood for 2 minutes (eventually sitting down), watching the "cashiers" gather into a huddle like a sorority event, eyeing and watching me. Absolutely bizarre and disrespectful. When someone finally took my order, she stalely said "Sorry for the wait."

I don't mind the wait. It's when I'm treated like a burden is when I get pissed off. Just say "I'm clueless and can't work a register." I'll understand that; it's the Kappa Lambda Ingredient sorority. Save yourself the trouble and go to Chipotle. They're always happy to see you.

Dear Ms. Cornish,

Sounds like you get ignored by girls, it probably isn't an ingredient thing. You just might want to comb your hair and slip out of your tight emo pants, and stop complaining like a little sissy mary. Say hello to the illegal aliens next time your down at that Mexican joint run by McDonalds. Face it Ingredient is a great local resturant run by locals. Quit your crying

Food is excellent. I don't mind paying the premium for the extra options and the quality but the service is inexcusably and dumbfoundingly bad. Half of the 10 orders I've placed have been completely wrong. They have a habit of giving you someone else's order. To go orders are never called out. During a recent lunch the two clerks and 5 order runners watched me wait for over 20 minutes on the to go order bench while I waited for an order that was finished long ago but was never called out. Oblivious staff is clueless. "Gee, why is that guy warming the bench?" The easiest part of restaurant logistics, matching order with customer and delivering order, is routinely botched at Ingredient. It's astonishing!!!

I'm simply not ever going to come here again.

I haven't experienced the service issues others have described. And cost-wise, yes it does cost more than a fast food joint - that's why I go there - it's NOT a fast food joint, and healthy options are available.

Smart food, modern decor, good atmosphere, but a little expensive. Daily specials are usually a delicious choice. Ingredient grows on you like a tasty bug. One of the best Lawrence has to offer!

I have little to say about the service or atmosphere. It was a nice place to visit and service was acceptable. However, the food was an utter disappointment. It is clear that the grill is not frequently cleaned because my mother's chicken and my salmon sandwich both tasted like char and nothing more. For $10 for a sandwich and a small side (like refrigerated grilled vegetables -- and would you not expect grilled vegetables to be, well, grilled? and warm?) each, I would expect it to taste better. This is not a unique experience as I have found subsequently from other folk who have visited Ingredient. Food tends to taste more like the grill than itself.I will not return here and I will encourage others to avoid it as well. There are better places to eat such as Local Burger, Milton's, etc.

I adore the food here and have never had a bad meal. The sandwiches, salads, wraps, salads, etc. are consistently tasty and fresh. However, the girls that work there are useless. Customer service experience is apparently not one of the things the managers look for when they're hiring, more like a pretty face. Color me crazy, but I expect a smile and some courtesy when I'm eating out. The prices are also a bit high, especially when compared to similar eateries. The half soup / half sandwich with a drink rings up to eleven+ dollars. If you're looking for something easy and casual and have some bucks to spare, this is the place to go, just beware of the cashiers snarky attitudes.

godjilla (Jill Ensley) says...

Dear Owners of Ingredient,You have a really good thing going over there. But here's a piece of advice, don't open the second part of your venture (iBar) without being ready. A friend and I waited for 15 minutes with a steadily growing line of people at the counter there, as wait staff whizzed by without acknowledging us. After finally fetching someone, we were told (while being rung up) that no, there is no espresso machine...and from the looks of things, nothing else except a paltry sampling of sweets. It seems half the menu, which was already on display, complete with pencils for ordering, was not available. So, if you're going to open without full service, please inform your customers before they've waited around for some service. A handwritten note would have done the trick...and maybe an apology would have been nice.Other than that, Ingredient is still one of my favorites in Larryville.
