SPOT! / Arthur Dodge

Eighth Street Tap Room

SPOT is a solo guitarist, tenor-banjoist, multi-instrumentalist from Austin, TX who is touring in support of his latest CD release "Unhalfbaking..." (Upland UP 001). A mostly acoustic player, he does not fit into the usual singer-songwriter genre. His style is best described as "two-fisted picking" ala Richard Thompson, Chet Atkins, Leo Kottke, Seamus Egan and seasoned with the sensibilities of Monk, Beefheart and Waits. Most importantly, he backs it up with outstanding composition and writing. This is a veteran performer who is equally at home on festival stages, in nightclubs and in coffeehouses. He has toured and shared stages with such rock legends as Mike Watt, Sonic Youth, Bob Mould, Guitar Wolf, Cherry Valence, The Sadies, and with more folk or "traditional" artists such as Alejandro Escovedo, Jen Hamel, Jean-Michel Veillon & Yvon Riou, Ed Miller and Michael Fracasso. Aside from being a fine musician, he is also well known for a legendary body of recordings (i.e., Minutemen, Husker Du, Big Boys, Descendents, etc.) he engineered and produced in the early 1980s. SPOT is currently one of the artists on the O&O/Upland label in Ft. Collins, CO.
