What do you get when you take two award-winning vocal groups and toss them into a blender with heaping helpings of tasty pop, high flying jazz, stylin' soul, blazing funk, awe-inspiring arrangements, and best-selling CDs? Easy answer: you get m-pact and measureXmeasure together in concert for a night of a cappella music like you've never experienced before! To see and hear for yourself, head to the Granada Theatre, 1020 Massachusetts in Lawrence, KS on Tuesday, April 6th at 7:30 pm, when the two groups will share the stage for the first time in over four years. Making a special guest appearance will be Genuine Imitation - KU's newest contemporary a cappella sensation. Tickets for this unique event are $10.00. Currently based in Seattle, WA, m-pact was crowned Grand National Champions and Audience Favorites of the 1996 Harmony Sweepstakes and has since won a slew of other awards, including Billboard's Best Unsigned Band of 1999, Artist of the Year in the Pacific Northwest's SAMIES competition and Best Vocal Jazz Group of both 2002 and 2003 in the International A Cappella Community Awards. The group has been touring around the world, headlining at concert halls and music festivals in Japan, Singapore, Italy, Germany, North Africa, British Columbia and all across the United States. m-pact has also appeared with Sheryl Crow, Natalie Cole, Kenny G, the Woody Herman Orchestra, Rockapella, The Nylons, The Bobs and an enviable list of other stellar artists. Among their many celebrity fans, Ray Charles said m-pact was "ALL-RIGHT!!!"; Bobby McFerrin said, "LORD HAVE MERCY...Y'ALL IS BA-A-AD!!!"; Kenny Loggins praised them for their "...star quality"; and Bill Gates said they were just plain "GREAT!" NPR has also hailed m-pact for being "a vocal wall of sound," while a New York producer simply called them an "EARGASM!" In addition to touring, m-pact has found time to produce three best-selling CDs, and currently the group is preparing two new CDs for release: one, of their critically-acclaimed, original pop tunes; the other, a jazz favorites collection.Kansas City-based measureXmeasure (measure by measure) has been hailed by critics as "a high-energy mix of Take 6 and Boyz II Men that'll simply knock your socks off!" (JazzBeat). Originally formed in the mid-1990's as a student group at the University of Kansas, the Kansas City-based quintet now travels coast-to-coast year-round headlining concert halls, festivals and college campuses everywhere. measureXmeasure has shared the stage with The Temptations; Nickelback; Earth, Wind & Fire; the Beach Boys; Christopher Cross; Bela Fleck & the Flecktones; the Gin Blossoms; Medeski, Martin & Wood; and many others. Since the release of its second CD, "We're Back" in April of 2000, measureXmeasure has received regular play on specialty radio shows across four continents - resulting in a growing international fan base for the group. mXm's August 2003 release, "On Our Own" has been called "one of the best we've heard" by Singers.com and is already being heard on college, public, and commercial radio stations across the U.S. In 2000, measureXmeasure was appointed to the performing artist touring roster of the Kansas Arts Commission, and in 2002 was selected as a touring artist for the Heartland Arts Fund. Among the group's many music industry accolades, mXm has been awarded showcases by the Rocky Mountain Fairs Association, the Performing Arts Exchange, Arts Northwest, and the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA).For tickets and additional information, please contact the Granada Theatre at 785.842.1390.Additional resourses:www.thegranada.comwww.m-pact.comwww.measureXmeasure.comwww.genuineimitation.org
