Chicago's Tortoise is one of the most innovative and prolific bands to emerge in the last decade. The all-star instrumental outfit is nearly indescribable thanks to its plethora of influences, including, but not limited to, indie rock, avant-garde jazz, prog rock, ambient music, film music, dub and electronica. Super-drummer John McIntire has emerged as the master producer of the group, helping record and compose its dense soundtracks. Antipop Consortium rapper Beans opens, with local "minimal-beat jazz" trio Free All Beats kicking it all off.
