Mel Gibson and the Pants / The Find / Archetype / more

Stop Day party at Project Groove

When: Friday, May 14, 2004, 9 p.m.

Where: The Bottleneck, 737 N.H., Lawrence

Cost: $4 - $6

Age limit: 18+

Categories: Dance, Electronic, Experimental music, Funk

Description: While "Mel Gibson and the Pants" could either be a terrible '80s cover band or a celebrity side project, it's actually neither. The Minneapolis-born collective offers a mix of experimental hip hop and minimalist instrumental rock that at various times recalls Can, El-P, Tortoise, Led Zeppelin and OutKast. This stop-day celebration also offers a rare performance from The Find, a local hip-hop collaboration between Miles Bonny (SoundsGood) and Isaac Diehl (aka "I.D."). Diehl's main project, Archetype, rounds out the bill along with DJ sets by Curtis McCoy, Matthew Hoerman and Meredith Vacek.

-- MEL GIBSON AND THE PANTS, Minneapolis (alright, think E-40 and Bone Thugz lyrical styles, Telefon Tel Aviv/Prefuse 73 beats, and the distortion of God Speed You Black Emperor)
-- The Find (www.thefind.net)
-- Archetype (the one and only, you know the deal)
-- DJ Curtis McCoy (host of Thurday's Breakfast For Beatlovers)
-- DJ Matthew Hoerman (from rare funk to hard to find hip-hop)
-- Meredith Vacek (playing the best in late night electro, dance beats)

$4 21+, $6 18 to 20
$1 Wells...that's $1 Rum n Coke, $1 Vodka and Cranberry, $1 Gin and Tonic,
$1 Bourbon and Soda you get the point right?
And if you're more into beer, we got $2.25 domestic bottles.
