The Yards / Mother Kali
When: Saturday, May 22, 2004, 10 p.m.
Where: The Bottleneck, 737 N.H., Lawrence
Cost: $4
Age limit: 18+
Categories: Funk
Description: Local "funk and groove" outfit The Yards is the kind of group that could get easily overlooked in Lawrence. The all-instrumental band straddles the line between jazz, funk and fusion, dwelling in a cacophony of grooves and solos but never veering too far into "jam" territory. This Saturday's show will also be the band's last with prolific local bass player Brad Maestas (formerly of the The Mums), who will relocate to New York at the month's end.
