Melvins / Trevor Dunn's Trio Convulsant
When: Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, 10 p.m.
Where: The Bottleneck, 737 N.H., Lawrence
Cost: $13.50
Age limit: All ages
Categories: Metal / hardcore
Description: It's been more than a decade since The Melvins' slow-core sludge rock found a mass audience thanks to the support of friend and neighbor Kurt Cobain. In many ways, the band is known more for the Seattle bands it influenced - Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney - than its own 20 album catalog, but constant touring and reinvention has kept a core audience intact. Fuzzy-haired ringmaster King Buzzo (Buzz Osbourne) has split his time between Fantomas (featuring Faith No More's Mike Patton) and The Melvins in recent years, but the band is out on the road again in support of its new record "Pigs of the Roman Empire."
