North vs. South Festival (Taproom)

Eighth Street Tap Room

Lawrence musician Mike McCoy of The Black Rabbits is the brains behind North vs. South, a three-day festival with the bizarre premise of only including bands from Austin and Minneapolis. Simultaneously occuring at The Jackpot Saloon, The Replay Lounge and The Eighth St. Tap Room, the festival offers a $10 all-access pass or a $2 cover for individual shows. Though the festival is largely stocked with relative unknowns, it roped in former Replacements guitarist Slim Dunlap as well as former Husker Du co-songwriter Grant Hart. Other highlights include Ol' Yeller, Lil' Cap'n Travis, Grand Champeen and delta blues picker Charlie Parr. If nothing else, the festival offers the unique experience of inhabiting another town's music scene for three nights.ThursdayYoungmond Grand (12:30)Mammy Nuns (11:00)New Vintage (10:00)FridayMoonlight Towers (12:30ish)CANCELLED: Slim DunlapEthan Azarian (10:00)SaturdayGrant Hart (12:30ish)Lil' Cap'n Travis (11:00)Mike Nicolai (10:00)

Not to mention Dumptruck, Magnolias, & so on....North vs. South is a seemingly FRESH idea, with obvious potential and room for even further creativity. Hopefully we embrace this--
