Where: The Replay Lounge, 946 Mass., Lawrence
Cost: $2
Age limit: 21+
Categories: Rock
Description: Drawing on influences ranging from the Beatles to Hum to Elvis Costello, Lawrence's Kelpie has been described as lounge-rock, a mathy singer/ songwriter project, progressive pop, "fancylad meandermusik" and everything in between. The very unique foursome takes plenty of chances with ambitious arrangements, all sewn together by tip-top melodiousness and a playful spirit. The band recently released its debut full-length "Hey Friends, It's Kelpie!" with Matt Talbot (formerly of Hum) and embarked on a European Tour with Koufax designed to wet the appetites of anyone with an open ear and a taste for outside-the-lines pop rock. The band took a brief hiatus to introduce a new guitarist (who purportedly plays all the parts of their recently departed keyboardist) and is kicking off another tour with this show.
