Free State Music Festival

Bluegrass and folk fest

Holiday Inn Lawrence

Who needs hollers and cricks when you can have heated swimming pools and discount room rates? Today's bluegrass is served up Holidome-style, with posh conference rooms and professional-grade PA systems. It might not be how Bill Monroe envisioned it when he invented the genre six decades ago, but it's the way of the world for The Nashville Bluegrass Band, an all-star collection of Nashville-scene veterans who are as comfortable interpreting the songs of Gillian Welch as Ralph Stanley. The festival also offers a collection of the best local talent, including the high-energy show of The Wilders. If you couldn't make it to Winfield this year, here's the next best thing.Lineup includes: The Nashville Bluegrass Band, The Wilders, The Midday Ramblers, Bluestem, The McLemores, Americana Music Academy Honky Tonk Sextet and Possum Nation.Friday afternoon show begins at 2:00 Friday evening show begins at 6:45 Saturday afternoon show begins at 1:30 Saturday evening show begins at 7:00Single Show $10; Single Day $18; Weekend Pass $30
