"The Man She Was"

Lawrence Arts Center

Based on a true story, The Man She Was follows the adventures of Emma Edmonds, one of the 400+ women who posed as men to fight in the Civil War. Emma enlists as Frank Thompson and serves as a male nurse, then a soldier and finally a spy. As Frank, she develops significant relationships with a captured rebel woman, her tentmate Billy, and General Poe. Doing what she has to do to fight for what she believes in, Emma disguises herself and in so doing, finds herself. The production will be directed by Kansas City actor/director Charles Fugate and will feature period music, intense battle scenes, a little humor and some incredible disguises.
