Open Forum on Recent Violence in France.The European Studies program and the Department of French and Italian at the University of Kansas will host a public forum with faculty and graduate students to discuss the recent rioting in France and the issues surrounding the causes."Is Paris Burning? Open Forum on Recent Violence in France" will be held between 4 and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, in Alderson Auditorium, Kansas Union.Civil unrest began Oct. 27. The violence was sparked by the accidental deaths of two teenagers in an electrical sub-station in Paris. After several days of rioting in the French capital, it spread to poor high-immigration neighborhoods across the country.The panel includes Bernard Cornet, distinguished professor of economics; Van Kelly, associate professor and chairman of the Department of French and Italian; and Ronald Francisco, professor of political science. Students participating in the panel will be Rokhaya Ndiaye, Besancon, France, graduate student in French; Anne Dotter, Offendorf, France, doctoral student in American Studies; and Badou Bousso, doctoral student in French from Saint-Louis, Senegal.The panel discussion will be followed by a question and answer session.
