"The Woods" again showcases Sleater-Kinney's penchant for big, sloppy guitar solos and Pavarottian vocals, unfiltered by modern rock conventions or producers. Inspired by first-wave riot grrl bands like Bikini Kill and Bratmobile, Sleater-Kinney can be a tough nut to crack for the kind of music fans who like their rock streamlined and singalongable. But when it comes to kicking out the bombast, Sleater-Kinney is still taking names.
