Gogol Bordello / Throw Rag / Scotch Green

Bottleneck

Ukranian expat Eugene Hütz fronts Gogol Bordello, an eight-piece ensemble that performs "gypsy punk cabaret." The New York City act has gained quite a cult following for performing Eastern European folk music (half the members are immigrants) using traditional instruments such as accordion and violin, combined with modern guitar and drums that tonally recall Sonic Youth. Of equal interest to the music is the band's manic live show, which Hütz partially credits to two major influences: Charlie Chaplin and Iggy Pop.
