Coldplay / Rilo Kiley

Capitol Federal Park @ Sandstone

Omaha-by-way-of-LA quartet Rilo Kiley offers up sugary pop concoctions laced with fistfuls of electric guitars, keyboards and miscellaneous brass. Lead singer Jenny Lewis has been rising to the top of the pop charts via her contributions to The Postal Service, while guitarist/singer Blake Sennett is an accomplished songwriter in his own right with a side project called "The Elected." Empowered with poise, grace and some killer pop sensibilities, Rilo Kiley is without a doubt one of the best under-the-radar rock bands out there. British rockers "Coldplay" are also on the bill...In "The-40-Year-Old Virgin," two characters are playing an ongoing game of juvenile insulting which results in the barb, "You know how I know you're gay? Because you like Coldplay." Well, there must be far more gay music fans in Kansas than even U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback could fathom, because the British quartet is a guaranteed sellout when it appears in the Wheat State. Touring on the strength of its latest acclaimed effort "X&Y," the Grammy-winning act continues to deliver the kind of moody, atmospheric material that has spawned so many imitators ... and makes the band big enough to be the butt of jokes. (Wonder if Gwyneth Paltrow will appear in the "Virgin" sequel?)

I'm fairly certain that the "before they get big!" quote was intended as sarcasm and/or dry humor, hence the statement on the 'WIN TICKETS TO THIS SHOW' link that the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater would be "a low-key, intimate setting!" for the show.

i got my tickets. $67 dollars later, i wish they were playing for $50 at kemper.

You couldn't PAY me $50 to watch Coldplay at Kemper ....

(both Coldplay and Kemper are the problems)

Rilo Kiley sucks. I went to coldplay last night at MSG and almost everyone in the audience was out in the hallway with their fingers in their ears. I'd rather listen to fingernails on the chalkboard. Same at the PNC everyone fled the arena.

Are you kidding me? The only reason to go to this show is to see Rilo Kiley. The last two Coldplay albums have been huge disappointments.
