The Billions combine ever-changing arrangements of guitar, keys and varied percussion with lyrical sincerity - uber-sincerity even - in their quest to create the kind of timeless pop music that died when Ric Ocasek switched to producing records instead of writing them. The Lawrence band's new album "Trash or Treasure" features the work of three remarkably similar songwriters - Sam Billen, Dan Billen and Simon Bates - who also call to mind modern groups like The Shins and Sufjan Stevens. Kansas City popsters The Girl Is A Ghost open the festivities.
