The newly-formed Downtown Mandolin Orchestra will present its premiere concert on Saturday, April 29 at 8:00pm at The Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire, in Lawrence, Kansas. Tickets are $5 at the door.The 17 piece orchestra was founded by Jeff & Beth Dearinger, of the Uptown Mandolin Quartet. Area mandolin and guitar players from previous Mandofest Orchestras form this new, permanent group. (Mandofest, a yearly all-mandolin spectacular event, is on hiatus for 2006)Jeff Dearinger, who has 30 years of experience leading and arranging music for mandolin ensembles, will conduct the Downtown Mandolin Orchestra. Their program will include a variety of classical, Hispanic and jazz music.
