This enticing bill showcases three bands that create complex, post-modern indie pop. Pinback is the rotating partnership of and Rob Crow (formerly of Heavy Vegetable) and Armistead Burwell Smith IV (formerly of 3 Mile Pilot). The group has been on hiatus while Crow pursues side-projects Goblin Cock and The Ladies, but is regrouping to perform a variety of tunes from its first three records and some new ones. Aloha utilizes marimba, homemade mellotrons, organs and tape manipulations to expand its complex, jazzy take on melodic rock structures. Opener The Life and Times hails from Kansas City and pairs the ethereal trickbag of My Bloody Valentine with the precision rock stylings of Hum and Jawbox.
