The Black Keys

with Dr. Dog

Granada

Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney are probably the happiest college dropouts and retired lawnmowers in all of Akron, Ohio. As The Black Keys (named in honor of a schizophrenic Akron artist's phrase for people who weren't quite right), the duo plumbs the vaults of electric Delta blues to come up with its own screamin' sound. The guitar-and-drums duo is embarking on tour in support of "Magic Potion," an 11-song affair for the Nonesuch label packed with the Keys' brash brew of rock, blues and soul. Opener Dr. Dog hails from Philadelphia and blends unapologetic '60s pop worship with lo-fi recording techniques and singsong vocals. The band recently released a well-received LP titled "Easy Beat" and played a string of dates with My Morning Jacket and M Ward.

So worth the ticket price!! I have been lucky enough to have a friend staying with us who brought along his Dr. Dog, and I can't think of a better pairing with the Black Keys for this show.
I can't blame the increasing numbers of folks that want to see them play, and the Granada's sound system is great, but the only thing that would make this lo-fi show a better bet would be a more intimate setting. I guess we'll have to make it intimate...
