Black Christmas / This Is My Condition
with Yamoto
When: Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, 10 p.m.
Where: The Jackpot Music Hall, 943 Mass., Lawrence
Cost: $5 - $7
Age limit: 18+
Categories: Experimental music, Metal / hardcore, Rock
Description: Lawrence's Black Christmas crafts brooding, soundtrack-esque instrumental cuts in the vein of Ennio Morricone (if he were a Fugazi and/or Sonic Youth fan). Kansas City's Anvil Chorus plays lush art-rock in the vein of Blonde Redhead, Mogwai and Portishead with enticing lead vocals from Anna Cole (ex-Trophy Wives).
Craig Comstock is a one-man band the likes of which this world may or may not be capable of containing. Formerly a member of local bands Many Series and Black Calvin, Comstock set out on his own when he became frustrated trying to find a drummer willing to play improvised hardcore. Now he does exactly that, performing on-the-spot experimental improvisations with a hefty array of pedals and a pair of sticks to beat simultaneously on his drums and guitar.
Tonight Comstock will avail his new live performance DVD—download our podcast preview.
