Public Bible Read-through

Signs of Life

During the week of June 19-24, in the days surrounding the longest day of the year, Signs of Life will be offering a public reading of the entire Bible. Beginning with Genesis at sunrise on June 19th, the Bible will be read straight through to the end of Revelation around sundown on June 24th.The reading will take place in the Signs of Life art gallery. The current show of liturgical art by Sandra Bowden has been scheduled to coincide with this event so the space will contain beautiful images of the Christian faith as a backdrop for the reading of scripture. Community-members are encouraged to stop by at convenient times during the week to listen to the reading, peruse the art gallery, and celebrate the richness of sacred and scriptural tradition. We are seeking members of the Lawrence community who are willing to sign up for one or more ½ hour time slots to read. It takes approximately 80 hours to read the entire Bible, so we will need many adult readers. We will also need volunteers to help coordinate the reading through the week. These will be people who can spend a block of time, say a morning or an afternoon, helping assure the smooth flow of the reading. If you are interested in volunteering for this community-wide celebration of the Word of God, please give us a call at (785)830-8030 to let us know how you would like to help with this project.
