Break out the lemonade, hoist the flag and be prepared to sing along asGeorge M. Cohan, the "Yankee Doodle Kid", comes to life on the Lawrence Community Theatre stage in the musical "GEORGE M!" The show features music and lyrics by George M. Cohan, and book by Michael Stewart and John and Francene Pascal. George M. Cohan was the first superstar of American show business, hisname familiar from coast to coast. He was an amazingly gifted writer,composer, and performer. At age 15, he was contributing songs andsketches for his family's vaudeville act, "The Four Cohans." His careerhad many ups and downs, but over its 64 year span, he authored 80 plays,had producing credits on 150 others, 1,000 stage appearances andcomposition of more than 500 songs. He is a Broadway legend, recipientof the Congressional Medal of Honor and celebrated with a statue inTimes Square. "George M!" will run June 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24 and 25.Thursday performances begin at 7:30, Friday and Saturday performances at 8PM and Sunday matinees at 2:30PM.
