Music from the Original 1970 album “Jesus Christ Superstar” will be performed by a 12 piece group made up members of some of Lawrence’s finest bands, including:
Split Lip Rayfield, the Midday Ramblers, The What Gives,
Drakkar Sauna, The She-bangs, and Marry Me Moses. Special Guests will include Arthur Dodge as King Herod and John Cutler as Simon.
These performances are the culmination of more than a year of rehearsals. The performance is drawn from the two-record set released in 1970 that featured Ian Gillan from Deep Purple as Jesus, Yvonne Elliman as Mary Magdalene, and Murray Head as Judas. This will be a rock show, not a theatrical performance.
All proceeds from the Lawrence shows will benefit the LINK Kitchen of Lawrence and the Lawrence Humane Society. The Kansas City show will also be a benefit for an as yet undetermined charity.
