The Sluggos are the recently reformed pop-tastic rock group of former Split Lip Rayfield mandolinist Wayne Gottstine. Formed in 1989, disbanded in 1991, reuninionized in 2000 and regrouped in 2005, The Sluggos play a party-pleasing brand of original pop rock that falls somewhere between The Monkees and Blue Oyster Cult. Gottstine shares songwriting duties and guitar riffage with fellow Wichitonian Michael Carmody. Lawrence's The Ants create eccentric, homespun indie-folk records that bring to mind primitive Pavement recordings and the reckless creativity of The Mountain Goats. The band recently upstaged Axl Rose by releasing a split EP titled "Chinese Democracy."Openers The Deadstring Brothers are the lastest addition to The Bloodshot Records family. The Detroit-spawned four-piece plays loose, rollicking Americana in the vein of Gram Parsons or "Sticky Fingers"-era Rolling Stones.
