Is it really fair to have a different set of judges every week? I really didn't see the differences in the bands to account for the differences between week one and week two scores.

thanks for the feedback angelfire— our thinking about judging is this:

- we want to get as many people from the community involved in the derby as possible. if just 3 people were judging all five nights, i think more people would take exception to those few people having full control over who wins.

- the bands are only competing against those in the same round. in a sports tournament, for example, the refs aren't the same for every single game...it's only important that the ref equally judge the teams who are directly competing.

Havok was robbed last night. i don't see how they lost. i haven't seen a crowd get so involved like that at a local show in a long time.

I would like to see the scoring/judging tweeked.

Perhaps, at least have the categories broken down.......... ex: Appearance: 10 points

What are you looking for as far as appearance??? A certain look, clean, long hair, short hair??? The category could be broken down by 2's........... All of them could.......... so the bands could have very detailed feedback. When one judge gives a band different scores on subjective feedback such as this (rather than objective)....... what exactly are the criteria for your score?

In a ball game, the refs have a very specific rule book...the refs are trained.... they don't just pull them out of the bleachers ( and I am not saying anything like that about the judges) however, there are rules and regulations that are more objective than not...although some of the calls can be seen as subjective......

That is all I am saying.............break down the score cards more...perhaps by 2's in each 10 point category... there is tremendous talent in this competition!!! Good job by everyone, but would like to see the judging changed a bit to help rather than hinder these groups.....there surely is a lot at stake and all in the Derby deserve a little something to help them on their way.

These are my thoughts, but did talk this over with several of the other audience members from both nights......... also from last years Derby.

Really do appreciate, however, the contest and the judges and the sponsors and especially the talented bands.

angelfire (and anyone else) —
i'm curious what specific criteria you think we should be judging. in any case, i think we can do a better job of guiding judges to explain their scores in depth.

also, photoguy—
havok isn't necessarily out... a wild card band will make the finals. so far, they're the strongest contender for that selection...

I am going to do a bit of research on this. Thanks for taking any and all suggestions.

In the meantime, something fun to read:
