New Orleans quartet Mute Math makes hi-fi modern rock with all the side dishes: Police-influenced reggae, Radiohead-esque electronica and U2-style stadium rock. The band's live show features a keytar and an assortment of outworldly sound devices to supplement its radio-friendly tunes. The group is still reeling from the unexpected publicity received in March when contestant Chris Sligh sang the band's "Typical" on an episode of "American Idol." Viewers will also get a kick out of Mute Math's eye-popping video for "Typical" (conveniently downloadable on YouTube), which features the hi-fi rock act performing the song backwards - it was shot in one take with no edits as the group delivered the performance in reverse.
