Anya Marina

with Poradova / Kirsten Paludan

Record Bar

Fans of female indie singer/songwriters might consider a trip to Kansas City tonight to catch Anya Marina from San Diego, CA. Bits of Juliana Hatfield and Bettie Serveert pop up in Marina's sugary compositions, which frequently fire the rock cylinders with full-band accompaniment. A midday DJ for San Diego's 94.9FM, Marina also acted in the film "100 Girls" and recently released a debut EP titled "Mrs. Halfway" that she describes as "the result of a whimsical childhood with Russian-Agnostic/Irish-Catholic parents, a few troublesome boyfriends, and subsequent therapy." Marina's songs recently surfaced on "Grey's Anatomy" and "The Real World."Kansas City's Poradova (RIYL Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan) and Kirsten Paludan set the stage.
