North vs. South Festival
at The Replay Lounge, Jackpot Saloon and Louise's Downtown
When: Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, 6 p.m.
Where: Downtown Lawrence, Lawrence
Cost: $2 - $15
Age limit: 18+
Categories: Music | Americana, Rock, Singer/songwriter
Description: If Wakarusa is Lawrence’s answer to Bonaroo, then North vs. South is our town’s version of the Pitchfork Music Festival. More than 70 acts spanning the independent rock, alt-country and folk scenes converge in Lawrence for three wild nights at The Jackpot Saloon, The Replay Lounge (inside and outside) and Louise’s Downtown. Groups from Minneapolis, MN, and Austin, TX, represent the lion’s share of the lineup, but a dozen bands from Lawrence and Kansas City will also participate.
All-access bracelets available for $15 at Love Garden and The Replay Lounge. Tickets for individual shows available at the door for $2-3.
FRIDAY BEST BET: Moonlight Towers, 1 a.m. at The Jackpot Saloon. In addition to doing a version of Television's "Marquee Moon" that North vs. South organizer Mike McCoy claims is better than the original, Moonlight Towers peddle clean chord changes, rich harmonies, and classic riffs without sounding like a cheap knock-off of all the bands in their record collections (though Elvis Costello, The 'Stones and Wilco probably figure prominently).

Shouldn't the analogy be more like Lawrence's answer to SXSW?
idk, Pitchfork is huge....though probably has about the same relative proportion of KJHK staff as this will

Why is it that you guys always manage to misspell Bonnaroo?
