Description: On August 18th the market hosts its 1st "Tasting Tomatoes: the good, the big and the ugly"! With more than 30 tomato varieties grown by our local farmers, you are sure to find a new favorite.
8:00-10:00 am Tasting Tomatoes
Join us in the Tasting Tent to sample your way through funky-looking but delicious heirlooms, tiny cherries that really pack in the flavor, and the best of the modern, disease resistant tomatoes. Red, yellow, orange, white, fuzzy, striped, tiny or huge--our vendors will be donating their favorites for your evaluation. You get to be the judge of what makes a tomato great. The Tasting Tent will be well-stocked from 8-10 am!
In addition to tasting tomatoes, you will have the chance to win the 2007 Tomato Crown in one of four contests...
8:45 am Fresh Salsa Contest
Enter your best recipe and win a $25 gift certificate to La Parrilla.
The Fresh Salsa Contest begins at 8:45 am. La Parrilla propriator Alejandro Lule has not only agreed to judge this contest, but he has offered a $25 gift certificate to the restaurant for the winner and is supplying chip so that our shoppers can sample the salsas once the contest has concluded.
9:00 am Largest and Ugliest Tomato Contests
Enter your huge or homely tomato and win a Market Goodie Card valued at $25+! See the results of our vendors’ and Lawrence’s home gardeners’ labors!
9:15 am Bruschetta Topping Contest
Enter your best recipe and win a $25 gift certificate to Wheatfields. The Bruschetta Topping Contest will begin at 9:15 am. Wheatfields bakery manager, Thom Leonard is our judge this contest. Wheatfields is also donating a $25 gift certificate to the restaurant for the winner and is supplying the pain ordinaire bread for the bruschetta so that our shoppers can sample the toppings once the contest has concluded.
The winners of all contests will be announced at 9:30 am with sampling concluding at 10:00 am. We hope you join us as we celebrate the "fruits" of our farmers' labor and the culinary creativity of our shoppers!

All entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form. You can bring your tomatoes, salsa or bruschetta topping to the Tasting Tent between the hours of 7:00 am and 8:45 am.
