Between the Buried and Me

with August Burns Red / Behold the Arctopus

Despite taking its name from the lyrics within a Counting Crows' song, Between the Buried and Me couldn't be less comparable to that earthy pop act. Instead, the North Carolina quartet navigates a sonic labyrinth of "savage metal, lush prog rock and uninhibited emotion." The band often leans toward social or political themes in its songwriting, as witnessed by its tune "Arsonist," which takes aim at the methods of Topeka's Westboro Baptist Church.
