From the promoter: Blues harp master and Handy Award winner (as part of the traditional blues duet of Cephas and Wiggins), Phil Wiggins returns to Hunt's New Year's Eve Eve stomp for the third consecutive year. He's recognized internationally among the elite talents on the instrument.
"Phil is a wonderful player and a dear friend. He's really unique because of the combination of his talent as a blistering improvisational player together with his intuitive contributions as an ensemble player in the voicing of some of the arrangements we're bringing to this show," said Hunt, intimating there are some surprise arrangements in store for the Uptown audience Dec. 30.
Composer, arranger, keyboardist extraordinaire and Hammond B3 allstar Mark Jordan's credits go back to his bedrock contributions on Hammond to the early Van Morrison recordings and tours that established Morrison as an international star. Since then Jordan has gone on to compile a list of studio and touring credits with many of the major stars in the blues, blues/rock, roots music and country/crossover worlds. He's a veteran of numerous live shows with Hunt and plays an important studio role on her upcoming new release.
"For me, whether it's in the studio or on a live stage it's nothing but a joy to have Mark Jordan involved with my music. And he's a major force on the new project. More than that, it's hard to imagine a studio setting or too many miles on a bus without Mark's positive presence, his endless library of humor - some of it of questionable content of course - and, let me tell you, the man can talk some politics, which comes in particularly handy these days. At the Uptown he'll help us sneak preview more of my new music," Hunt said.
This is the fourth consecutive year for Hunt's "Rockin' New Year's Eve Eve" show, originally scheduled the day before New Year's Eve at the request of many fans. Again this year proceeds from the show will benefit Kansas City non-commercial Community Radio licensee KKFI 90.1 FM.
"It makes no difference what angle you're coming from - alternative points of view and sources for music that fall outside the commercial mainstream only strengthens our community. We're going to do everything we can to make this a night to remember musically. We urge people to join us for a great time, to celebrate the hope that 2008 will usher in a new era of peace and prosperity and to take this opportunity to support KKFI," said Hunt. As a way of thanking her fans Hunt will issue a $5 discount coupon toward the purchase of her upcoming release to everyone with a paid admission.
