Bob Shands book signing

Bob Shands, the son of a Southern Baptist minister who helped lead the peaceful desegregation of Atlanta's public schools in 1961, will share his boyhood experiences of growing up in the Jim Crow South with Kansas City metro residents during a series of book signings and appearances slated for Black History Month.The Olathe author's self-published book "In My Father's House: Lessons Learned In the Home of a Civil Rights Pioneer" explores the impact the conflicts of the Civil Rights era had on him from the ages of 4 to 14.The lessons of racial tolerance and understanding he learned under his father's roof while living in the Deep South from 1953-1963, inspired Shands to self-publish a book about his childhood experiences.The author will share his personal story while signing copies of his book at several metro area bookstores throughout Black History Month, kicking offSat., Feb. 17., 1:00 pm. to 3:00 p.m., at Signs of Life, 722 Massachusetts St.His book can be purchased at several bookstores throughout the Kansas City metro area and online at www.bushelbskt.com.
