Description: Douglas County CASA, Inc. will hold its 16th annual Casa4CASA fundraising event from July 7 – July 21, 2007. This event gives community members the opportunity to win a custom-designed playhouse while also supporting a worthy organization: CASA. This year, David Vance of GLPM Architects, Inc. has designed a unique playhouse that will delight children of all ages. Also donating his services is Dan Riedemann with 19th Century Restorations, who will build the playhouse.

The playhouse will be displayed at the following locations:

• July 7 – 11 at The Community Mercantile (tickets available at registers)
• July 12-15 at Wal-Mart
• July 16-18 at HyVee on 23rd Street (tickets available at customer service desk)
• July 19 at Downtown Lawrence Sidewalk Sale
• July 21 at Downtown Farmer’s Market

At each location, CASA will be accepting donations for a chance to win this imaginative playhouse. A donation of $1 earns one chance to win, $5 earns 8 chances and $10 earns 20 chances! The winner will be drawn on July 21st. You do not need to be present to win. Tickets will also be available at the CASA office, 1100 Massachusetts, 3rd floor of courthouse, M-F, 9am to 5pm, July 9-July 20.

Please come out and support CASA. Be sure to bring the little ones, as Dizzy the Clown will be making appearances at various locations and sharing her fabulous balloon making talents! Not only will you have the chance to win a one of a kind playhouse, but you will also be helping to make a difference in the lives of abused and neglected children through your support of CASA.

The Douglas County CASA, Inc. program recruits, trains and supports community volunteers who advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children who are under the care of the juvenile court. The goal of the program is to help children find safe, permanent and loving homes in which they can thrive. Douglas County CASA, Inc. has provided volunteer advocates to over 665 children since its inception in 1991.

In 1977, a Seattle judge conceived the idea of using trained community volunteers to speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children in court. So successful was this program that soon judges across the country began utilizing citizen advocates. In 1990, the US Congress encouraged the expansion of CASA programs with passage of the Victims of Child Abuse Act.

Today, CASA has grown to a network of more than 50,000 volunteers that serve 225,000 abused and neglected children through 900+ local program offices nationwide. Our advocates, also known as volunteer guardians ad litem in some jurisdictions, are appointed members of the court. Judges rely on the information these trusted advocates present.
