Rapper MIMS is the brains and braggadocio behind "This Is Why I'm Hot," a No. 1 Billboard Hot Rap track that paid tribute to various rap scenes by sampling Kanye West (Chicago), E-40 (Bay Area), Dr. Dre (Compton) and Mobb Deep (New York). The gesture was appropriate given MIMS' refusal to identify with a particular rap scene-he's from New York, but produced his new record "Music is My Savior" with Miami's The Blackout Movement. Onstage, MIMS presents a good-natured vibe devoid of thuggery and indicative of an upbringing that forced him to make his own way after losing both parents.
