Red Balloon To Do
When: Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Downtown Lawrence, Lawrence
Cost: $1
Age limit: All ages
Categories: Outdoor, Art | Opening
Description: Last year's closing of the Olive Gallery could have spelled doom for the Red Balloon To Do. The annual arts fest had been one of Lawrence's coolest happenings since 2003, inviting house owners to makeover their residences into makeshift galleries and inspiring proper galleries to let down their guard and display a wider spectrum of local artists. Fortunately, a team of dedicated movers has preserved the event by connecting with new venues and booking a massive lineup of bands for the afterparty at The Jackpot. Pick up your all-access red balloon for $1 at Astrokitty Comics, Solidarity, Mirth, Wild Man Vintage or The Jackpot (more venues may be announced the day of the event) and wear your walking shoes.
The due date for art applications is September 1st at Astrokitty Comics. This is an open call; all artists are invited to apply regardless of age, experience, or place of residence. All genres and media are accepted.
